All the Cantonments being essentially urban areas, land value therein is escalating rapidly.  Inorder to determine rents, in case land is allowed to be occupied on lease or licence basis, the market value of land is assessed by a committee consisting of the defenc estates officer and a representative each of the collector and the adjoining municipal corporation or municipality. Market value is determined on the basis of various factors such as land use, potential for development as building sites, sales statistics of similar land etc. Rent is calculated for residential purposes @ 2.5% of the market value.
