Subathu Cantonment is situated in the heart of Shimla Hills at the height of 4000 feet above sea level and is 15 Kms from Dharampur which is the nearest rail head. The Station was originally one of those retained by Sir, D. Ochterlony on the termination of Gorkha Campaign of 1815 as a political land Military outpost, and was made the Headquarters of the Nasiri Battalion raised from the fragments of the Gorkha troops, a detachment of which had formally occupied Subathu as a position. The Subathu hill was retained as a Military fort by the British Govt. at the close of Gorkha War.
As per Cantonments Act, 2006, Subathu is of Category III Cantonment. The Cantonment has been divided into 6 Wards for the purpose of election and civil members are elected for a period of five years directly by the people in accordance with the Cantonment Electoral Rules, 2007 framed under the Cantt. Act, 2006. The Board has been constituted under section 12(5) of the Cantts Act, 2006 as under:-
