Defence Estates Day 2013: Cultural Programme by School Children of Cantonment Board Jabalpur

The very name of Madhya Pradesh - the heartland of India - conjures images of its rich cultural heritage in our minds. The cultural bouquet of Bundelkhand has various buds. One of the buds “Badhai” has blossomed as a famous folk dance of the region.

This dance is performed to celebrate social occasions like, marriage, birth of the child and numerous local festivals. The banter of men and women makes this dance more attractive. Coordinated movements of the performers on the beats of dholak might compel even the audience to shake a leg or two.

Various folk musical instruments like Dholak, Flute, Tasha, Dhapla, Jhanj etc. have been used to provide authentic folk music for this dance.

The students of Cantonment Board School, Jabalpur will present the Folk Dance “Badhai”.
