The IT Division of the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE) plays a crucial role in development and management of various projects related to Defence Estates Organization. The Division is actively leveraging modern technologies to enhance software development. The Major Projects of the IT Division are given below:

The IT Division also maintains a separate Network Operating Centre (NOC) which responsible for managing the internal network infrastructure of the Directorate General Defence Estates. The NOC ensures smooth communication, connectivity, and security within the organization. It monitors network performance, troubleshoots issues, and implements necessary upgrades. The IT Division oversees the intranet spread across all Directorates, Defence Estates Offices, and Cantonment Boards. The intranet serves as an internal communication platform, allowing offices to collaborate, share information, and access resources. It plays a vital role in streamlining administrative processes and facilitating efficient communication within the Defence Estates Organization.

Details of the Projects

eChhawani Portal: In a major steps towards digital governance and promoting transparency and accountability in the functioning of Cantonments, Directorate General Defence Estates, Ministry of Defence had conceptualized the eChhawani Project to provide 100% online service delivery and standardization of various forms and processes to implement an efficient and citizen centric service delivery mechanism. Before the implementation of eChhawani Project, residents of the Cantonments were required to visit the Cantonment office for availing services and the process for delivery of the services were not standardized across the Cantonment Boards. The eChhawani project involved a substantial government process re-engineering effort resulting in efficient and effective service delivery mechanism for the citizens of the Cantonments along with real time monitoring of the performance of the Cantonment Boards.

The eChhawani portal (https://echhawani.gov.in) and Mobile App is a multi-tenancy citizen centric software that has been implemented to provide online civic services to over 20 lakh residents of the 61 Cantonment Boards across the country through a unified eChhawani Portal in a simple, user friendly manner. The eChhawani project has improved citizen interaction with Cantonment Boards and supports all services in different regional languages of India. To promote the Digital mode of payment, Cantonment Boards are also providing incentives to the citizens who are availing service via self-service mode through eChhawani Portal.
